Ottawa, Nov 7 (Canadian-Media): Midfielder Olivia Smith, aged 15 and 94 days, became the youngest Canadian soccer player came on as a substitute for Jordyn Huitema to debut with the national team in the 86th minute of a 4-0 loss to Brazil in the tournament opener, media reports said.
Smith started playing soccer in Whitby, Ont. when she was five. She was 12 when she made her entry in the Canadian youth program in 2017. She represented Canada at the 2018 CONCACAF girls' under-15 championship and has also attended four under-17 camps.
Canada featured 17 different players in the loss ahead of the Olympic qualifiers, which run Jan. 28 to Feb. 9 in the U.S, with the two finalists qualifying for Tokyo.
