55-year old Johnson had tested positive since more than 10 days but was able to perform his office duties from his residence where he was in isolation.
After suffering persistent coronavirus symptoms, including a high temperature and a cough for more than 10 days he was admitted St Thomas' Hospital across the River Thames from the House of Commons leaving his office duties to his foreign secretary Dominic Raab to lead the government's response to the accelerating outbreak.
Due to his rapid deteriorating condition over the next 24 hours, he was moved to an intensive care unit, where the most serious cases are treated. Although he had received oxygen, his office said he was still conscious and was moved to intensive care in case he needed to be put on a ventilator.
