The enacting of this bill was in response to filing unemployment claims by a record number of Americans and the U.S. having topped China with the most confirmed COVID-19 cases.
The $2 trillion bill which was passed with bipartisan support by a voice vote contains expanded unemployment insurance, provides direct payments to most Americans, and hundreds of billions of dollars in loans and grants would be paid to corporations, hospitals, state and local governments and more.
