In spite of nationwide adoption of stringent mitigation efforts, between 100,000 and 240,000 Americans could face death in the coming weeks due to COVID-19 pandemic, CNN reported Tuesday.
According to the update, United States recorded the most cases in the world with more than 170,000, while Italy, the second nation with more than 100,000 cases, recorded most deaths of 12,428,.
Considered as the epicenter of the United States' outbreak, New York state, has reported both the most cases topping 75,000 as well as most deaths of 1,550.
In addition, there was a bid among the states against each other to obtain ventilators to get oxygenated air to patients who are unable to breathe sufficiently on their own.
It was being examined on Tuesday by Anthony Fauci, a key member the White House's COVID-19 task force, if recommendation of more widespread usage of face masks could mitigate the spread of virus.
But at the same time, he said they do not want to deprive the health care providers of their masks, who presently are in great need of these to ward off the danger of getting infected.
