Cory, a former Red Bull world champion athlete turned stuntman was the recipient of the 2020 Taurus World Stunt Award for his work on Tarantino’s Academy Award-nominated film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
The short film “Danny Boy” starts with Francis (Sammy Horowitz; also the writer) is on his way to pick his associate Danny (Jett Jansen) and are indulging in vulgar conversation during which Danny takes out his gun startling Francis. This move is both indicative of murder and gun violence. Soon Francis discloses to Danny their common friend Stevie B’s inside information regarding a plan for break in, rape and murder to make them rich again a revelation of the gang-related law-breaking crime and murder.
A spirit of comradeship between Horowitz and Jansen is discernable which make their disagreements casual and believable. In his short film Danny Boy, Cory both pays homage to the gangster warlords as well as amuse the audience with the unexpected ending.
The sudden change of relationships between the two friends due to homophobic attitudes and murderous tendencies leads to an unexpected tragedy. But Danny follows the plan Francis had discussed with him and after his mission returns back into the car with his head bleeding.
The sensitive subject of homosexuality forms the center of the story around which DeMeyers weaves crime, gang wars, and heist by defying the conventions to provide both amusement and a unique experience to the audience. Cory portrays in this gangster genre to which the short film belongs, friendship, betrayal, profanity-filled, realistic conversations, emphasizing that this a man’s world.
Sammy weaves a backstory without even introducing a third character Steve mainly through his expert writing as the audience is made aware of Steve from Danny's and Francis' conversations.
Being aware of the fact that short films rarely resort to elaborate opening sequences, appropriate graphics and music have been used to portray the dark and gloomy world of Danny Boy which prepared the audience what the story is set to offer.
