Toronto/Canadian-Media: Consulate General of India Toronto organized 'Varishtha Yoddha’ event on Oct. 3rd 2021 at 1100 hrs at Hotel Holiday Inn Toronto International Airport, Toronto in celebration of 75 years of India’s independence as ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ in honor of veterans of Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.

2. During the event a total of 87 veterans who are above the age of seventy five years were felicitated in recognition of their invaluable service to the nation. A written message from Hon’ble Raskha Mantri, Shri Rajnath Singh was read out by Consul General Ms. Apoorva Srivastava during the event and Hon'ble High Commissioner of India to Canada, Sh. Ajay Bisaria & India's Defence Attaché to US and Canada based in Washington, Brig. Anoop Shinghal also graced the felicitation ceremony.

3. The felicitation event also comprised of various cultural performances and some experience sharing by some of the veterans. Due to the pandemic situation and the restrictions at large gatherings, only the veterans and their family members were invited and the event was live streamed on CGI Toronto’s ‘Facebook’ and ‘Youtube’ pages for the Diaspora members. CGI Toronto is thankful to the Veterans Association of Ontario, The Air Force Veterans Community Association and The Naval Foundation, Canada for their valuable contribution in connecting CGI with the veterans and making the event possible. The Consulate will continue to work towards the welfare of ex-servicemen including by organizing an exclusive camp for issuing of life certificate to veterans in Greater Toronto Area.
