Ottawa, Sept 21 (Canadian-Media): National Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan today welcomed the appointment of Gregory Lick as the interim Ombudsperson for the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces, media reports said.

I welcome Mr. Lick as the interim Ombudsperson. Mr. Lick’s extensive experience in the Government of Canada and leadership in the Canadian Coast Guard will serve DND employees and CAF members well. I would also like to extend my thanks to Mr. Walbourne for his service as DND/CAF Ombudsperson,” said Sajjan.

Sajjan also thanked Gary Walbourne for his service to the Defence community as Ombudsperson since 2014.
The Ombudsperson is responsible for investigates complaints and serves as a neutral third party on matters related to the Department and the Canadian Armed Forces and the welfare of its members and employees.
Reporting directly to the Minister of National Defence, the Ombudsperson acts independently of the chain of command and managers.
Apart from Lick's service onboard Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) icebreakers and search and rescue vessels for 30 year, he had also worked to develop the shipbuilding procurement and fleet renewal strategies.
Effective November 1, 2018 Lick will serve as the interim Ombudsperson for a term of up to eight months or until a new Ombudsperson is appointed.
A selection process is underway to select a new Ombudsperson for a term of five years.
