Toronto, Mar 13 (Canadian-Media): It was announced by Toronto officials Friday that on the recommended by Toronto's medical officer of health Dr. Eileen de Villa, major city services of Toronto are being shut down effective 12:01 a.m. on Saturday due to an alarming increase in number of COVID-19 cases, media reports said.
The shutdown does not include the TTC.
The shutdown of services, said City Manager Chris Murray, was needed to help slow the rate of COVID-19 infection in Toronto and protect vulnerable populations, including seniors, people with compromised immune systems and homeless.
All public libraries and licensed daycare centres will be closing down from Saturday.
Other facilities and programs that would be affected include: City-operated March break camps, Community and recreation centres, Greenhouses and conservatories, Pools, Fitness centres, Ski hills and City-operated galleries and museums.
Council and committee meetings for the current meeting cycle are also suspended, added Murray.
