Image credit: apxdata.com FedDev Ontario is a federal institution that is part of the Innovation, Science and Economic Development portfolio and is responsible for delivering programs and services to support innovation and economic growth in southern Ontario—Canada’s most populous region.
FedDev Ontario’s repayable contribution of $615,000, more than $1.2 million in investments would be done from members of the Capital Angel Network and Ontario Centres of Excellence. Established in 2013, APX is an Ottawa-based software company that develops mobile technology solutions to address Smart City infrastructure needs. APX SmartCaptureTM enables first responders to collect data from existing floor plans quickly using mobile technology that can reduce data collection time from seven to 14 hours per building down to 30 to 60 minutes per building. APX SmartViewTM then allows the APX SmartCaptureTM data to be distributed to emergency services personnel in other branches or stations within seconds of a call, sharing critical building information for more effective, safe and timely responses on site. “Support from FedDev Ontario is great news for Ottawa’s APX, as it allows this innovative tech company to scale-up activities to compete as an early leader and capture market share in North America. It is investments like this one that help to position Canada as a global innovation leader, while ensuring the safety of Canadians is made a top priority now and in the future,” said Vandenbeld. This fund would serve to commercialize its SmartCaptureTM and SmartviewTM software, which immediately shows first responders building layouts and floor plans on smartphones and tablets when dispatched to emergencies. Through this project, APX would reportedly create up to 15 full-time, skilled jobs in southern Ontario and accelerate growth in North America “APX is excited to receive this financial support from FedDev Ontario and the Government of Canada...The endorsement of our vision allows APX...create meaningful jobs for Canada while improving public safety through our innovative, advanced mobile technology solutions,” said Paul Martin, Chief Executive Officer, APX. This support from FedDev Ontario would not only speed up the innovative technology to collect data on buildings and deliver critical information to field personnel, Canada’s first responders can provide effective, safe and timely responses in emergency situations. “This project aligns with the Government of Canada’s plan to make our country a leader in innovation and create well-paying jobs from coast to coast to coast, while most importantly keeping first responders and the public safe,” said Bains To meet the needs of innovators and job creators, applications for new projects are now being accepted by FedDev Ontario, using a single application form, through three simplified funding streams.
