Toronto, Mar 02 (Canadian-Media): An announcement was made jointly by Jeff Yurek, Transportation Minister, and Phil Verster, Metrolinx President and CEO on Feb 28 that GO Transit trains and buses would be offering free rides to kids 12 and under starting March 9, 2019, media reports said.

Free rides on GO trains and buses without a PRESTO card, said Yurek, would better integrate transit in the Greater Toronto-Hamilton Area (GTHA) and as well provide cost-effective services for families and offer low-stress alternative to driving.
Kids 12 and under already travel on the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and UP Express for free.
"Free rides for kids mean more family adventures," said Verster. "The whole family can give GO Transit or UP Express a try while getting our younger generations excited about taking the train or the bus."
"During March break and all year-round, Ontario offers a variety of activities, festivals, museums and parks to help the entire family learn, stay active and enjoy nature," said Minister of Tourism Culture and Sport, Michael Tibollo. "I encourage parents and caregivers to take advantage of free rides for children under 12 via GO Transit and explore Ontario."
